Catching the “Big Fish”
Catching the “Big Fish”
Matthew 4:18-22
18 One day as Jesus was walking along the shore beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers—Simon, also called Peter, and Andrew—fishing with a net, for they were commercial fishermen. 19 Jesus called out to them, “Come, be my disciples, and I will show you how to fish for people!” 20 And they left their nets at once and went with him.
21 A little farther up the shore he saw two other brothers, James and John, sitting in a boat with their father, Zebedee, mending their nets. And he called them to come, too. 22 They immediately followed him, leaving the boat and their father behind.
Those men dropped everything they were doing they left there belongings and family just because Jesus told them to. They threw down everything just to be with Jesus even when they did not know what Jesus meant by being a Fisher of Men.
Jesus used the metaphor “fishers of men” to describe how his disciples would “catch” people for the kingdom of God.
Luke 5:1-11
1 One day as Jesus was preaching on the shore of the Sea of Galilee,* great crowds pressed in on him to listen to the word of God. 2 He noticed two empty boats at the water’s edge, for the fishermen had left them and were washing their nets. 3 Stepping into one of the boats, Jesus asked Simon,* its owner, to push it out into the water. So he sat in the boat and taught the crowds from there.
4 When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Now go out where it is deeper and let down your nets, and you will catch many fish.”
5 “Master,” Simon replied, “we worked hard all last night and didn’t catch a thing. But if you say so, we’ll try again.” 6 And this time their nets were so full they began to tear! 7 A shout for help brought their partners in the other boat, and soon both boats were filled with fish and on the verge of sinking.
8 When Simon Peter realized what had happened, he fell to his knees before Jesus and said, “Oh, Lord, please leave me—I’m too much of a sinner to be around you.” 9 For he was awestruck by the size of their catch, as were the others with him. 10 His partners, James and John, the sons of Zebedee, were also amazed.
Jesus replied to Simon, “Don’t be afraid! From now on you’ll be fishing for people!” 11 And as soon as they landed, they left everything and followed Jesus.
Even when they didn’t catch anything the night before and didn’t have any hope in catching anything they trusted in Jesus and did as they were told to do and what happened? They caught so many fish they needed extra hands to pull the net into the boats and the boats could hardly stay in afloat.
Without Faith we would be nowhere, without God’s Followers who would there be to do the “catching” of men? Dose it matter how Big the “catch” is to God. The answer is NO. it is not every thing little or small is equal in the eyes of our father and savior he showed us how to “catch” so that we can do the catching. He is admiring each and every catch we make and gives each one of us the same amount of praise no matter what the size is of what we “catch.”Just because your catch is small it is big in gods eyes.
