The Holy Spirit

Post  all4christ1104 on Sat Oct 11, 2008 3:53 am

Before I begin, this is not a debate thread. Any off topic, debate typed, or unneccesary posts will first be given a warning, and if necessary, removed.

The Holy Spirit. Has anyone experienced the power of the Holy Spirit?

I believe that anyone who is truly a Christian has. Maybe not in an "in your face" way. but definately subliminally (ephesians 1:13-14)

amen!

I have had several encounters, probably one of the most memorable was when He filled me up completely. That night I recieved my prayer language, and I also recieved my calling

Also, in July, my youth group went to church camp, and after the evening services we had a church time, and when we would leave those sessions, I look like I was drunk. which I was, I was Drunk in the Spirit.

How would you define the power of the Holy Spirit?

It is too hard to define. It is different for everyone, and many times different each instance.

sometimes, I cry, I shout "hallelujah", I have been given Holy Laughter once *that was so cool* Laughing

Re: The Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is the power that we cannot take credit for in tough times, the hope that we have when all seems lost, the contentment even when all seems like it's going to end. I continue to stress (to seemingly no avail) that the Spirit is not so much a spur of the moment, feel good or magic worker who gives us amazing powers or sudden divine revelation through prophesy. Instead He is more, more personal, more caring, more loving. He is implanted in everyone who will be saved before their birth, given as the seal and sign that God has set the person apart to be a son/daughter. He moves throughout our lives, giving us courage when we are cowardly, holding us back when we might have been reckless, giving us hope and even faith, as we cannot take credit for even this as it is a gift of God.

The one time I felt the Holy Spirit more clearly than ever was last spring break. I was with a group of guys doing work in New Orleans and over the night some of them orally harassed me and took it upon themselves to call my friends and ask if we had engaged in a sexual manner. After they had had their fun they turned in and left me up alone. I tried writing some of my emotions down (as writing is something that I feel I am good at and it helps me clear my mind), but I could not shake the feeling of complete isolation and despair. After an hour I silently just begged God for help. I cant explain it, I can hardly describe it. Even before my mind had totally formed the words to ask God for help there was a peace that sort of came, it was like when your jittery and your nervous and your about to spaz out, and a friend just sorts of wraps their arms around you and calms you down.

Finally, The Bible (Romans I think...) says that God helps us in our weakness. That even when we do not know how to pray, He (the spirit) intercedes for us. That when we don't know how to ask God, He moves in front of us. I personally believe this not only has a physical application here on earth, but that it also applies to when we will be in heaven. All of our deeds, thoughts, schemes will be laid out, and we will be called to give an answer (I am just stating an opinion here and do not mind if you just tell me im wrong or whatever) . I do not believe that we will be the ones that give an answer thought, I believe that those who are not saved will babble on about how they did such and such right, or how they are really a good person. And some will come up to God expecting to be let in because they were good "christians." (Matthew 7:21-13) I believe that those who are truly saved by Christ will hang their heads, will have no answer for their wrong, and when they cannot answer, the Spirit will. Giving the testimony that the person belongs to Christ, and that their sin was paid for at the cross.

anyway, yeah that was long...

good point Randal... It is all God's doing, nothing that we can do.
