Who are your favorite authors?

Post  GKC on Sat Jan 03, 2009 9:31 pm

Who are your favorite authors? I'm curious.

My favorite author is G.K. Chesterton.

I have read a few books by Ted Dekker Thr3e, Black, Red, White, and House (though, of course, the last was co-written with Frank Peretti). I thought they were pretty good

I haven't read anything by Stephen King.

As for Stephenie Meyer, I haven't read anything by her. However, my niece has read her books, and since my niece doesn't do much reading that I'm aware of, I take it they have to be pretty good. :-)

Do you read any non-fiction?

Oh, ok. :-)

Have you read any fiction by C.S. Lewis (or *cough* G.K. Chesterton *cough*. Heh.)?

I like Stephenie Meyer's style of writing: it's very easy to understand, yet fluent.
Of course, I like the bible people.
In history, I adore the writings of William Manchester.

Could you tell me more about William Manchester? Thanks!

Well, probably his most famous books would be The Chronicles of Narnia. He also wrote his Space Trilogy (which I have not yet read), plus other books.

I absolutely loved The Screwtape Letters, for instance. :-)

William Manchester has written many books, including A World Lit Only By Fire, which had a profound effect on my writing ability.
He picks things apart and puts them into extreme detail, I believe, and his writing style is amazing.
You should try to read A World Lit Only By Fire. It's about European history. There are some pretty...detailed sexual references in there, so if you don't like that type of stuff, be warned.

Could you post an example of his writing (maybe a few paragraphs), so I could get a sense of his writing style? Thanks. :-)
