Matthew 19:16-23

Post  4ever4him on Tue Oct 07, 2008 3:12 am

Ok people it seems as if I took a little break from my devo work. But I am gonna start again. When I went to youth group last night and when I was listening to the teaching I got this devo put into my head and felt like I should right it down so here it is.

Ok so this testimony is on Matthew 19:16-23 so here it is I will try to stop with the chit chat.

Ok so there was this guy named well he dose not have a name the bible just says a man. So my bad.

A man came up to Jesus one day and asked him what he had to do to get eternal life.
That’s like a question every one wants to know the answer to right?
Well let’s see what he said I will put the verse down for you. Matthew 19:16-18

16 Someone came to Jesus with this question: “Teacher, * what good things must I do to have eternal life?”
17 “Why ask me about what is good?” Jesus replied. “Only God is good. But to answer your question, you can receive eternal life if you keep the commandments.” 18 “Which ones?” the man asked.
And Jesus replied: “ ‘Do not murder. Do not commit adultery. Do not steal. Do not testify falsely. 19 Honor your father and mother. Love your neighbor as yourself.’* ”

well those are hard to do right?
Who here has problems following those commandments? A lot right?
It’s a hard thing to follow and obey all 10 commandments right? Well lets see what he had to say to that. Matthew 19:20

20 “I’ve obeyed all these commandments,” the young man replied. “What else must I do?”
Lets see what Jesus said to that.
Matthew 19:21-23

21 Jesus told him, “If you want to be perfect, go and sell all you have and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” 22 But when the young man heard this, he went sadly away because he had many possessions.
23 Then Jesus said to his disciples, “I tell you the truth, it is very hard for a rich person to get into the Kingdom of Heaven. 24 I say it again—it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the Kingdom of God!”

ok so what do you think the man did? Did he sell all of his stuff and follow him later? Who knows… some people think he did but we don’t know for sure if he did.
Ok at first when the guy said he had followed all of those commandments. What did he seem like to you was he being full of him self? Was he being ignorant what?

And then when he walked away sad…. What did you think of that was he being selfish because of his great wealth?
Think about those questions as you go on with your day and also look at the questions below.

Ok so I got some questions for you guys to think about.

1.would you give up everything to follow him if he asked?
2.would you be able to do that?
3.have you followed all those commandments all the time?
4. Is it even possible to do that?
5. Would you do the same as the wealthy man?
6. What did you get from what this devo is talking about?
