God inspired poetry.

I woke one night with the first few lines of these two poems running through my head simultaneously, so I picked up a pen and finished them.

The Old Man

There’s an old man I know, wants to swallow me whole
Wants me fettered and festering, down deep in Sheol
His ally is satan, the devil, accuser
Together they tell me I’m nothing, a loser
But by Christ who is in me, I will not abide
With that old man and satan
Their tricks and their lies
If I stumble and fall
I know Jesus is with me
By His love, by His blood, by His death
I am free.


I Ache

There’s an ache in my back, in my shoulders and neck
It’s life’s toils and troubles, my body’s a wreck
There’s an ache that goes deeper, so much deeper inside
First felt when God touched me, I broke and I cried

Oh the tears from my eyes were of sorrow and pain
But the tears from my heart were of life new again
If I could I would sever, that silvery thread
To sit at your feet, in your presence instead

Now the ache is still with me, It ebbs and it flows
When my time comes to join him, my God only knows
